Profile Overview

 

Dr. Mohan Pathirana is a distinguished leader in higher education and a visionary entrepreneur dedicated to advancing international academic excellence in Sri Lanka. An old boy of Royal College, Colombo 07, he holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and a Master of Business Administration (Merit) from the University of Colombo.

Professional Journey

Dr. Pathirana began his professional career as an Electrical Engineer at Hayleys Engineering Ltd. His passion for education led him to establish ICBT Campus in 1999, where he served as CEO and Executive Director for 18 years. Under his leadership, ICBT became one of the most recognized private higher education institutions in Sri Lanka.

He later took on the role of Chairman at Edulink International Campus, where he significantly enhanced both its educational and financial standing. In 2018, he founded Clamp Holdings, focusing on international higher education and developing Asia as a regional education hub.

 

Awards & Recognitions

Dr. Pathirana’s leadership excellence has been celebrated through numerous international awards, including:

  • Hall of Fame Award – World Chancellor’s & Vice Chancellor’s Awards, India (2014)

  • Innovative Leader Award – Asian Leadership Awards, Dubai (2013)

  • Young Achiever Award – Asian Leadership Awards, Dubai (2013)

  • Innovative Leader Award – Philip Kotler Initiative, World Marketing Summit, Malaysia (2013)

  • Hon. Abdul Kalam Award for Educational Excellence (2019)

 

Academic Honours

For his exceptional contribution to private higher education, Dr. Pathirana was awarded an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of the University) by Middlesex University (UK) in 2014, and recognized as an Honorary Fellow of Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK) in the same year.

This prestigious fellowship is the highest recognition ever conferred by Cardiff Metropolitan University, making Dr. Pathirana the first Sri Lankan to receive this honour.
